Of all the online memorial websites we have reviewed, we realised that there is a need to develop our own online Buddhist memorial website so that:
1. It can be designed for the underserved Buddhist community rather than for the general community. You may not know much about Buddhism but what is most important is to reflect on the importance of how ‘life is uncertain but death is certain’. The core practice of Buddhism is to allow us to have peace of mind with our life when we work towards the goal of enlightenment. This goal sounds lofty but since life is short, a peaceful death means that we have live a wholesome life avoiding evil, doing good and purifying our mind. So, death and dying issues is a powerful reminder of the impermanence of life. Buddhistspace.com allows Buddhists to remember their loved ones in occasions like puja, dana and social gatherings that allow us to practice the transference of merits. 2. It can be constructed as an educational portal rather than just being an obituary news portal. Most Buddhist leaders noticed that nowadays people don’t frequent temples to learn about Buddhism due to their time-poor lifestyle, and the lack of structured Buddhist materials used to apply in our daily lives. For instance, Mangala Sutta is suitable for lay people’s practice because it teaches us how to structure our lives to gain the highest blessing of life through positive practices. Positive practices refer to having wise friends, having a suitable place to live, developing applied skills, cultivating a happy family, gaining positive social support first before practicing our 5 precepts to sustain our personal development. In parallel to the issue of death, it means that we can reflect on ‘what we have wisely developed’ (the highest satisfaction of life) than ‘what we want to have’ (unfinished business) in life before we end our life peacefully. 3. It can be regarded as a value-added post funeral service for Buddhist families. Most memorial websites are founded by those who merely want to make a profit online or those who have faith in God or Christianity. BuddhistSpace.com is meant to educate non-Buddhists and funeral directors about Buddhist funeral service, and to encourage Buddhist families to practice Buddhism through the understanding of death. There has been a lot of misconception on the delivery of Buddhist funeral service due to the mixture of Taoism, Confucianism and Chinese ritual practices and superstitions. We intend to make a difference by helping Buddhists to understand the practical meaning of enlightenment, which is ‘to live well, to die well’. |

I just wanted to say 'Thank You'. This website means so much to us. I originally found it when I was sent the site address for Chief Reverend, then created a site for my mum the very same day. Again, just a very big “Thank You” for a job well done!
Thank you I want to give my testimonial |
